Grammy nominations 2024 SZA leads a female-dominated year

Women dominate this year's nominees, with only one guy, Jon Batiste, nominated for both song and record of the year.

Female musicians, led by SZA, Phoebe Bridgers, Victoria Monét, and Taylor Swift, are expected to dominate next year's Grammys.

SZA has received the most nominations for her album SOS and its tracks, which span the pop, rap, and R&B genres. So far, the singer has won one Grammy out of 14 nominations. She is up against Billie Eilish, boygenius, Jon Batiste, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Victoria Monét in the record of the year category.

Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers, and mixing engineer Serban Ghenea all have seven nominations. Monét is also a nominee in the category of best new artist, alongside Ice Spice and Jelly Roll.

Both the song and record of the year categories are virtually completely female, with only Batiste nominated for both. In 2022, Batiste received five major Grammy awards.

Swift, who has six nominations, has the potential to create Grammy history if she wins album of the year four times, making her the first artist to do so. Rodrigo, who has won three Grammys in the past, has received six nominations for her album GUTS and the song Vampire.

The Barbie album has also received 12 nominations, with tracks by Eilish, Nicki Minaj, and Dua Lipa featured heavily. Four of the five candidates for best music from visual media are from the album.

Meryl Streep, Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders, and Dave Chappelle are among those nominated for audiobook, narrative, or comedy prizes.

Three new categories are being introduced this year: best African music performance, best alternative jazz album, and best pop dance track. The latter category nominees are Kylie Minogue and Troye Sivan.

Notable omissions include country artist Morgan Wallen, who received only one nomination for best country song for Last Night. This year, the song lasted 16 weeks at the top of the US charts.

Beyoncé became the most honored artist in Grammy history earlier this year, earning four trophies at the 65th event, raising her total to 32. Harry Styles' album Harry's House was named album of the year.

The 66th Grammy Awards will be held on February 4th, with the host still to be confirmed.
